What is this project about?
The BC Reggio-Inspired Mathematics Project (BCRIM) is a network of educators engaged in collaborative inquiry, investigating how pedagogical practices drawn from the Reggio Emilia Approach enhance the teaching and learning of mathematics.
The project emerged from a professional inquiry guided by Janice Novakowski with primary teachers in the Richmond School District in 2013-2014. Grant funding from the BC Association of Mathematics Teachers and the Vancouver Reggio Association supported the growth of the project to a cross-district project in 2014, with teachers across many Coast Metro districts participating.
Articles and resources
Over the years, the BCRIM project has hosted in-person and online conferences, published articles, and has created and shared teaching resources. Continued financial support from the BCAMT and also from ShareED BC allowed us to create and share resources developed from our project. These articles and resources have been created in collaboration with participating teachers and many of them will be available to download here.
Nature Journalling Club Grant
For the fall of 2026, the BCRIM project has received a small grant from the Wild Wonder Foundation to host a nature journalling club with a focus on mathematics. You can view participating teachers’ contributions on our padlet HERE.
